Though it was cool today with all the rain and the sun, in just one day the beans all popped! I went out to look this morning and nothing. 12 hours later? It's always a fun part of gardening, the surprise, and wonder at new life.

Some of my beans have been attacked by small white maggots which eat the underground stems and roots, causing the plant to die. I am not sure, but I think they might be immature Vine Weevil grubs. I applied some nematodes about 6 weeks ago, which has reduced the damage (not as many losses as last year), but has not been 100% successful. I have a "Reserve" batch of beans growing in some pots, so that I can replace the casualties. What type of beans are yours?
ReplyDeleteHi Mark so far so good here, I've got Henderson Lima, and Green beans from Burpee's - "garden bean." Kind of silly generic name.
